Introduction



 This is the true story of my father, Russell A. Grokett, Sr. 
24 Nov 1912 - 29, Jun 1982
Preface -- by Michael A. Knox, grandson
He grew up in rural Kansas, went thru the Great Depression, lost both parents while a young man in his early twenties, joined up with one of the last horse calvary units in Texas, fought in the Battle for the Philippines, survived the Bataan Death March, spent 3 1/2 years in Japanese POW Camps, came back, got married, had a family, lived through years of operations and illnesses including Legionaire's Disease, traveled all over the United States camping and fishing and died of a heart attack at the age of 69.
This is one chapter of his story.
